Ankle and Feet Pain Treatment
While most patients think of visiting a chiropractor for back pain, we proudly welcome injuries of other areas of the body, too. In fact, we see a number of patients each week dealing with things like ankle and foot pain. We’re happy to offer support to those patients with focused, custom adjustments.
Conditions We Help
- Research shows that an ankle sprain that is adjusted within the first 24 hours after injury can be incredibly effective at reducing healing time and the need for an ankle guard. It may also reduce pain immediately and allow patients to put weight on it enabling a faster recovery.
- Plantar Fasciitis is also a common complaint we see in the practice often. This can feel like stabbing heel pain during the first few steps in the morning, or pain that persists all day. Approximately 2 million of people are treated for this condition every year. Plantar Fasciitis is caused is caused by the tightening and spasm of the muscle of the feet (plantar fascia). Chiropractic can help reduce the inflammation and swelling at the joints, therefore improving foot pain.
- A bunion is a painful bony bump that develops on the inside of the foot, commonly at the big toe. Females are at a higher risk for bunion due to wearing tight pointy shoes. Bunions can cause asymmetry at the toe joint. By realigning the feet bones, bunions can be controlled before it reaches a stage where it causes constant pain during walking. Children who partake in ballet or dance lessons should get their feet checked.
- Gout is a complex form of arthritis that attacks the big toes and knee. Patients normally feel like their big toes has been bitten by something. It causes intense joint pain and may feel like it is ‘on fire’. Chiropractic treatment has proven to be effective in reducing the symptoms of gout.
- Achilles Tendonitis is also a common condition that may benefit from chiropractic treatment. Athletes or even someone who walks a lot can experience a tight and painful sensation of the tendon at the back of the heel below the calf. Adjustment and realignment on top of soft tissue therapy works well to treat the pain.
- Flat feet (pes planus) is a condition where the normal arch of the feet drops down causing the entire support of the feet to collapse and cause pain during walking. Over 20-30 percent of the population has arches that are not formed properly. This in turn causes other joints to go out of alignment and causing other feet and ankle and even knee conditions. Our chiropractors work to realign the feet and leg and restore the arch of the feet through adjustment and insoles.
